The Empress of Ice cream My new book, The Empress of Ice Cream, is finished at last and with the publishers here in the UK. It will be published in August 2010. The story concerns the man who invented ice cream, in the 17th century, and the woman he loves. Not many people realise that the first recorded mention of ice cream anywhere in the world is in England, at a feast given by Charles II in 1671. In those days how to make it was a closely guarded secret. I've taken the known facts and woven a story around them involving Charles II's mistress at the time, a young French beauty called Louise de Keroualle. Writing the book involved huge amounts of research, but it was fantastic fun. I'll update the website with a couple of sample chapters nearer to publication...

"This is one of those delicious, unashamedly feel-good stories that begs to be read in the sun – preferably an Italian sun, as the book makes you long to be there, sipping at a beaker full of the warm south” The Times
"It's a hymn to la dolce vita and the joy of food by someone who knows his stuff and his stuffing, a text that breathes authentic backstreet Rome from every page. I loved it" The Times
